Plus size women have a very different sizing chart and you really need to know specific dimensions before you shop for any clothing. Buying clothes online is great for saving money, but you have to be careful to pick out the proper size that is going to fit your body type. Full figured women have to get used to sizes from 14 through 32 and 1x through 5x.

There are three main areas of your body that you need to measure in order to determine the proper size clothing that will fit you. The chart below, courtesy of lanebryant.com, identifies bust, waist, and hips as the key areas to measure. To get the most accurate measurements, be sure to measure yourself while wearing your most commonly worn undergarments. Be sure to keep the soft tape measure straight and snug in order to get the most best measurement on your body.

Bust – Use a soft tape measure to measure under your arms but on the fullest part of your bust.
Waist – Use a soft tape measure to measure the diameter of your waist at the middle of the hour glass.
Hips -Use a soft tape measure to measure around the widest part of your hips while standing with good posture.

You will notice that the plus size chart above contains two different types of sizing. We included both because some plus size stores use strictly numbers, while other stores use the 1X, 2X, etc type of sizing. If your measurements fall between sizes, I recommend getting the next higher up size. The plus size chart is not perfect by any means, but I hope it will give you a really good idea on what size to choose based on your dimensions regardless of what online plus size store you are shopping at.
